Ralf Rangnick (63), will have to step down from his post as head of sport and development at Lokomotiv Moscow in order to assume the role. Michael Carrick has been temporarily taken over while United goes through a thorough selection process to appoint an interim leader.
Ralf Rangnick is close to finalizing a deal to be Manchester United’s interim manager until the end.
Talks are ongoing about a deal in which Rangnick would remain at the club for two more years as a consultant role.
Rangnick, who is 63 years old, is the current manager of sports and developments for Lokomotiv Moscow. United and Rangnick are still in discussions with Russian clubs about a release agreement.
As it stands now, Michael Carrick will still be in the Premier League match at Chelsea. It will be live on Sky Sports.
Carrick was temporarily taken over by United while they conduct an extensive process to appoint an interim boss after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s resignation.
Ernesto Valverde, former Barcelona head coach, and Rudi Garcia, ex-head coach of Lyon were also considered for the interim position.
The club is looking to hire a permanent coach at the end the season. Mauricio Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain boss, is the first choice. Erik ten Hag, Ajax head coach, is also considered.
